How often should I change the filters, cartridges, and canisters?

When it comes to changing a filter, cartridge, or canister, you can consider looking for these early signs to know if you should change the filters:

  • You have difficulty breathing while using the mask.
  • If you can see any visible gunk on the filter.
  • You start to smell or taste what you are trying to filter out.
  • The filter has been damaged in any way (please change it immediately if it is damaged).

Does Parcil Safety offer respirators for children?

In the United States, like in many other countries, government certification agencies and standards do not approve respirators for children. Parcil Safety does not manufacture respirators specifically for children. Our available respirators are designed, tested, and certified for adult use and come with user instructions for adults.

Some adult respirators from Parcil Safety may fit children, but it is critical to follow guidance from local health authorities regarding how to protect children during poor air quality or emergency situations. We strongly advise against putting any material directly on the face of an infant or toddler. Respirators should never be used on infants and toddlers due to the high risk of choking and suffocation.

Should a parent choose to provide a respirator to a child (following guidance from health authorities), they must be aware of and accept several risks:

  • Proper Fit: A respirator must form a tight seal. A child's face may be too small for respirators designed for adult faces, although some children may have facial dimensions similar to adults.
  • Maturity Requirements: Some children may lack the necessary maturity to use a respirator correctly, which could compromise safety
  • Safety Risks: Respirators have specific performance features, and all instructions must be read and understood before use.
  • Severe Consequences: Misuse of a respirator can lead to serious health consequences, including sickness or death.

It is important to ask the experts for health advice when using respirators to minimize risks, especially when considering respiratory protection for children.

Can I wear my glasses with a full face mask?

Glasses are not compatible with full-face masks. Wearing glasses can compromise the seal of the mask, potentially allowing particles to enter. To address this issue, we offer inserts called the Spectacle Kit, which enable you to wear prescription lenses inside the mask, ensuring both vision correction and proper seal integrity.

What is the shelf life of those filters, cartridges, and canisters?

Filters, canisters, and cartridges all have a recommended shelf life. This can be found on the website or within the packaging content for each product. However, if stored correctly, they can last longer. If stored incorrectly, they could also last less than the recommended shelf life. Below are reasons filters go bad and information on prolonging their shelf life:

  • Expires due to gradual air exposure, leading to chemical absorption by activated carbon
  • Stored in airtight containers or mylar bags can extend their shelf life by preventing air exposure.
  • Particulate degradation over time is influenced by sunlight, humidity, and temperature.
  • Proper storage conditions can help preserve filter longevity by shielding them from environmental factors.
  • Glues and seals in filters may deteriorate over time, risking the integrity of the particulate part.
  • Stored in suitable conditions minimizes the risk of deterioration, ensuring their effectiveness.

How do I register the warranty?

For warranty registration, it is automatically added/registered upon purchase. The warranty starts at the time that you receive the mask, so there's no need to manually register product.

How do I clean the mask?

To learn how to clean your mask, please follow these steps:

  1. Remove the cartridges and filters attached to the mask
  2. Clean the respirator face piece (excluding the cartridges and filters) by immersing it in warm water, not exceeding 120° F, and scrub with a soft brush until clean. Add neutral detergent if necessary. Do not use cleaners containing lanolin or other oils.
  3. Disinfect the face piece by soaking in a solution of quaternary ammonia disinfectant or sodium hypochlorite (1 oz. [30 ML] household bleach in 2 gallons [7.5 L] of water) or other disinfectants
  4. Rinse in fresh, warm water and air-dry in a non-contaminated atmosphere.
  5. Store the respirator mask in a respirator storage bag away from contaminated areas when not in use.

Can I use a full-face gas mask with a beard?

It's recommended to be cleanly shaven. Having a beard can compromise the seal of the mask, potentially allowing particles to enter. The mask's seal requires a flat surface to ensure proper sealing.
